Initially, residents of areas that receive their TV signals directly from a local station will be most affected by this transition. Because our state relies on translators to get broadcast signals from one community to the next, many New Mexicans receive their television signal from one of these translators.
Our broadcast
members have spent millions of dollars on equipment and infrastructure to equip the state's translators with digital receivers. Therefore, many people in New Mexico may
not be affected initially as the translators will "translate" the digital signal so you will view your
television just as you always have.
However, the situation is different in cities that are the home to full-power television stations. The effected communities are included on the map (at left). Click a community to see what you may need to do by February 17, 2009 to prepare for the digital transition.
The map shows communities that are immediately effected by the digital
transition. Keep checking back for updated information as we continue to move toward the digital transition.
